First, check the status: Is it "Pending" or "Posted"?

The very first thing you gotta do is check if the charges are actually “posted” or just “pending.” If they both say pending, honestly? Just wait a day or two.

See, sometimes a merchant’s system sends a double signal by mistake, but the bank usually figures it out and drops the extra one before it actually pulls your money. 

It’s annoying because it ties up your credit limit for a minute, but it usually fixes itself without you doing a thing.

But what if the money is actually gone?

What if they both actually go through? Like, they both say “posted,” and the money is officially out of your account? 

Now you gotta move.

Reach out to the store or the website first. Seriously, don’t go to the bank yet. Just call them up or go in and show them the double charge on your phone. 

Most of the time, they’ll see the error and hit the refund button right then and there.

When the store is being difficult

Look, if the merchant is being weird about it or says they “can’t see” the second charge, that’s when you call your credit card company. 

Tell them you want to dispute a “duplicate transaction.” It’s a super standard request. 

Since the amounts and the timestamps are basically identical, the bank usually wins these cases pretty fast. 

I mean, you didn't buy the exact same dinner twice at 7:02 PM, right?

Don’t let it sit for too long

One thing, though, don’t wait forever to do this. You usually have about 60 days to report this stuff in the USA, so if you see it, handle it. 

If you just let it sit, it becomes a whole headache later on. Just get it sorted now so you can stop thinking about it. The bank charged you for overdraft?
