Now, lets talk about the format in simple language, So that you could understand it better.

1. Sender's Address :-

FORMAT | In American English the sender's address is usually placed in the top right corner, at the starting of the letter.

However, in British English the sender's address is commonly written at the top left corner, at the beginning of the application letter.

So, it's up to the write whichever he/she wishes to used.

I personally followed the British English format.

2. Receiver's Address :-

FORMAT |It should be just below the Sender's address at the left corner of the application sheet.

No coma or any exclamation mark is required. 

3. Date :-

FORMAT | It should be just below the receiver's address after leaving a line.

There're many formal ways of writing the dates. The common form of dates are:-

  • 7th May 2022
  • 7 May, 2022
  • May 7, 2022
  • Friday, 7th May 2022.

4. Subject :-

FORMAT | It appears just below the dates after leaving one line according to the old format. 

However, if you want to follow up the new format, the subject should comes after the salutation/greeting.

It isn't mandatory to change the paragraph but it depends on one's writing style. Since, there's no any restriction.

5. Greeting :-

FORMAT | It comes just below or above the subject line (depending on the format applied).

6. Letter Body :-

FORMAT | The Letter Body appear at the middle of the sheet i.e., just below the salutations/Subject (depending on the format followed).

7. Complimentary Closure :-

FORMAT | It appears just after the letter body. And just before the name and signature after leaving a line in between.

8. Name And Signature :-

FORMAT | It comes after a complimentary closure after leaving one line with a full stop.

It is the last part of the application letter


Old Format V/S New Format
